THE STATISTICS

  • Roughly every 2 hours a man takes his life in the UK

  • 2019 saw 5,185 male suicides in the UK

  • Age group, between 45 - 49 was the worst sector and accounted for 26.1% of the fatalities

  • 1 in 3 men in the UK have experienced suicide thoughts due to stress

  • 2 in 3 men in the UK said they felt, due to stress, so overwhelmed or unable to cope

  • Only 1 in 4 men are prepared to speak to someone about their issue(s)

  • Suicide rate for women is a fraction of the total, compared to men.  Women seem to be able to chat about their issues a lot more compared to us men

MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

  • Surround yourself with positive people

  • Fill your mind with positive input

  • Control your language

  • Create a routine for the day

  • Be nice to other people, smile

  • Don’t rely on an outside source of positivity

  • Create high points in each day and week

  • Assume responsibility, and choose your response

  • Decide your reaction to known problems ahead of time

  • Breathe deeply

  • Make a mission statement

  • Have personal goals

  • Remember that no one owes you anything

  • Stop complaining

  • Embrace laughing.

  • Be curious and embrace learning.

  • Look to long-term instead of short-term.

  • Fake it until you make it.

FIND SOMEONE YOU CAN CHAT TO

  • Only 1 in 4 men feel comfortable chatting to someone about their issues

  • This is a remarkable fact, we are supposed to be so strong 

  • However, a problem shared is a problem halved

  • Often when we chat, we can see how to resolve the issue or can see its not as big as we thought it was

  • Finding someone that you can trust to chat too on a regular basis

  • A friend or an elder is probably the best place to start

  • Mentoring is good for all of us, we all need someone to chat to just to download our head in private

  • Practice Progressive Muscle Relaxation

  • Focus on Breathing

  • Develop a Positive Self-Talk Habit

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP

Its so important to get help if your feeling ultra stressed or suicidal.
Life is so precious and fragile, things can often be worked out, we are just not used to chatting things through. Sadly its not in our DNA, we are programmed to be hunters all the time.
However, we all need support and confirmation.

Stress its a killer

The stress of life on men can just be overwhelming, the demands of work, supporting the family and trying to balance everything at home and work.
The pressure to perform on all fronts added together with social pressure of keeping up with the Jones' is often overwhelming.
